Premier Inn Spelling Mistakes

Premier Inn’s latest Television advert has been forced to be taken off air as the graphic featured was littered with spelling mistakes. The hotel chain’s advertising campaign that features Lenny Henry featured a graphic of Britain made up of the different locations the premier inn are however places such as the Isle of Wight become the Isle of White, Scarborough is spelt Scarbough and Peterborough is spelt Peterbough and Livingston gains an extra “e”.
The mistakes are highly embarrassing for Premier Inn who have blamed the blunder on its advertising agency, “We are rectifying the spelling mistakes immediately and we are sending our agency a dictionary!” Furious bosses have been forced to haul the campaign off air while the mistakes are corrected. However it was back on within 24 hours.

Only a month ago Premier Inn were once again forced to take off their advert in which Lenny Henry parodies Jack Nicholson in The Shining and smashes a door with an axe, thrusts his head through the door and says "Here's Lenny" as the Advertising Standards Authority said the scene was likely to frighten young viewers. The Premier Inn spokesperson argued that the scene was 'light-hearted' and would be considered amusing by anyone of any age. At the end of the advert Lenny Henry declares 'A bad night's sleep at some hotels can really make you grumpy". The advertising Standards Agency upheld complaints saying that Lenny Henrys behaviour and the menacing tone of the music was likely to frighten and distress youngsters.

"We also considered that, because young children would not understand the ad's reference to The Shining, they would be unlikely to appreciate the comic context in which the menacing Lenny appeared, and could find him threatening," a spokesperson said. It ruled the commercial must not be shown again during or around programmes tailored towards children.
Maybe Premier Inn should start using a different Advertising Agency...I am always free if they are interested :)
