For my ICA project I felt that the best way to get an idea of the space was to visit it and really research into the the possible platforms I could use for my interactive designs. The ICA was established in 1947 by a collective of artists, poets and writers to explore contemporary cultures across many mediums. The ICA has been at the forefront of artistic experiment since its formation and has presented some of the most radical exhibitions. I wanted to explore the space further and so went along and took some photos on my phone, so apologies for rubbish quality, starting with the reception and shop area.
This is the lower gallery space where they exhibit artists work as well as having bands who play live on the stage. The area is a really dark space with low lights and dim candles which sets a calm scene and is a stark contrast compared to the usual bright light and white spaces of other galleries.
This is the corridor space leading the cafe. What I like about the ICA is that no space is left unused. It is a small gallery and so I suppose they have to but they still do it in an effective way.
In the reception area the walls are covered in artists work and I think this might be an area that I would want to work in, or to follow the form that the ICA follow in using as much space as possible I could maybe even put work in the toilets as its usually an unused space.
