within cultural spaces. The PDF should include a minimum of 5 case studies of varied nature
describing how graphic designers can trigger audience participation through online or offline designs.
Part 2: You are invited to make a proposal, which looks at increasing audience participation
within the ICA. The solution can be online or offline and can pretty much take any form as
long as it engages visitors physically, visually or orally and it should demonstrate your graphic and communication skills. Your idea should include production details and a description of how it will be integrated in the space or online (blog or microsite for example) and how you expect people to interact with it. The idea should look at being innovative, dynamic and have a DIY approach. It should also be accessible and easy to understand for a wide audience.
Audience
Visitors, students, artists, curators and ICA staff
Aim
-Understanding and analysing audience interaction within spaces
-Engaging visitors beyond &/or on the programme, making them feel part of the space
We were split into groups of 3 to 4 to make us work with people we didn't know. I hate this method because generally its hard to bounce ideas of each other when you do not know them and the whole process always takes longer as you have to break to 'I don't know who you are' barrier. Unfortunately the two people I was put in a group with did not seem to be very enthusiastic about the project, one kept leaving the room to take phone calls and the other was just not interested. I started generating my own ideas and made a list of possible formats, examples of exhibitions I have seen etc. EVERYTHING I wrote the other two copied down including my initial ideas and where I wanted to go with the project even though I kept trying to initiate conversation. When Sara Bois came over to our group to chat one of the group members proposed my ideas as her own, which is my biggest pet hate ever! It wasn't even that they were any good. Anyway after this and then hearing that the visit to the ICA was cancelled I gave up and just came home, not the best start to a brief but hopefully things will get better.
